Audition Requirements and Information
Audition requirements for YWOW include the following:
Two scales of your choosing to demonstrate fluency and range. Multiple octaves required for woodwind instruments, and preferred for brass instruments.
Chromatic scale, started on the lowest note in the normal range of your instrument, and ascending for at least one octave.
An excerpt from your WSMA solo, or other repertoire source. If you prefer, you may perform an excerpt from a work you are currently studying in your high school band.
In order to qualify to audition, you must be a member in good standing of your high school band program. Home-schooled students are exempt from this requirement, as are students that attend a school where there is no band program.
Auditions are held in the spring of each year. Our Executive Director visits all area high schools throughout the spring season to share information about YWOW and hear auditions.
As well, the Youth Wind Orchestra of Wisconsin uses a rolling audition system, meaning we hear auditions throughout the year, as well as the scheduled spring auditions. For more information or to schedule an audition, contact YWOW Executive Director and Conductor Rob Engl at firstname.lastname@example.org, or 262-501-0699.
